Many users ask us how to capture DVD screens without having a classical 'black screen' problem
when the result of capture is a 'black screen' instead of a real DVD screen (frame). Taking Screenshots from DVDs or Media Player is a serious problem for any screen capturing or video recording tool. A large part of screen capturing software captures standard Windows output instead of DirectX output while DVD, Windows Media Player, Internet movies and other streaming videos use DirectX output to accelerate a drawing. Note, most of modern graphical cards use built-in hardware accelerators to draw DirectX scenes. Unfortunately, DirectX uses its own output system and can't be captured via the common Windows GDI interface.
For this reason, taking screenshots from DVDs requires a special approach.
Solution. Step-By-Step instructions:If you see a 'black screen' as the result of capture, turn on the 'Prevent Black Screen' option at the Preferences | Other page.Note: You should turn on this option before a DVD or Media Player gets started!
If the result of capture is still a 'black screen', turn off the hardware acceleration:
Note: In a few cases this solution doesn't work, however. It occures very rarely, but it occures. If it takes place, try another DVD player. Mr. Captor can capture any screen activity and save it as
AVI file, but it has some limitations, however, because it is mainly intended to capture
still images. ScreenVirtuoso enables you to record desktop activity and save the clip as AVI file, which can also be converted to MPEG 1/2 VCD/SVCD/DVD,SWF (Macromedia Flash) compatible formats. The program can limit recording to a selected window or a rectangle area on the screen. The program also captures DirectX output properly, which can often result in black screens during regular screen captures. You can choose to record audio and optionally annotate a scene with various shapes or speech bubbles. The program is easy to use, you can pause/resume recording via keyboard hotkeys, and also adjust the frame rate to achieve higher or lower quality videos. ScreenVirtuoso has the 'Prevent Black Screen' option as well. To learn more about ScreenVirtuoso, visit its site at: http://www.screenvirtuoso.com
