Screen shots capture in Windows can be done by two ways:
- By using the <Print Screen> key to capture the entire screen or the <Alt + Print Screen> key to capture an active window content.
- By using a special snapshot software.
The first method is built-in in Windows and doesn't require an additional software.
But it also has a lot of disadvantages:
- Screen shots capture is restricted by the capture of the entire desktop or a single window. You can't capture a region, multiple windows, menues, scrolling windows, animated images, and you can't capture on timer event. You also can't grab the DirectX and Direct3D output of games, and media player screens.
- You can't capture dialog controls: buttons, edit fields, combo boxes etc.
- You can't enlarge a region while the capture.
- To edit the captured image you need to use an external image editor.
- You can't save the captured images without an addition software. For example, if you want to save an image, you need to run a graphical editor, paste an image into it and finally save the image.
- You can't output an image to the printer without an additional software.
And more disadvantages ...
